NY - Fire Island Light by Day Night Light

$ 25.00

    The original Fire Island Light was built in 1826 adjacent to the inlet at the end of the island and stood 74 feet high and was made of Connecticut blue split stone.
    It's lack of height and its location in relation to the migrating sands at the mouth of the inlet spelled its demise and today, all that remains of that light is a ring of bricks and stones and the blue stone from the original is now part of the terrace and the pedestal of its successor.
    in 1982, The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society was formed in response to its continuing deterioration and lack of available funding from the Federal Government.
    The efforts raised over $1 million and a year later, The Fire Island Lighthouse was placed on The National register of Historic Places.
