Long Island, Great South Beach - Steamer "Prinzess Irene" Night Light
The Prinzess Irene was one of several ships engaged in transporting immigrants from southern Europe to Ellis Island and a new life in America.
The ship itself would also enjoy a new life after it was impounded during WW1 and rechristened the USS Pocahontas.
In her new role under a new flag, she served as a troop ship transporting American doughboys to the battlefields of Western Europe in the final years of The Great War.
